Our mission is to share Caleb’s story, our grief, and the impact his suicide has had in an effort to educate, help remove stigmas, raise suicide awareness and prevention, and most importantly, to save lives. To accomplish our mission we will be traveling to different commands all over the country so we can address as many service members, veterans and their families as possible.
My beautiful boy has always been larger than life so it stands to reason that losing him has led to something so significant. Caleb was only 21 when he lost his battle to suicide. He was active duty, and he loved and excelled at his job.
From a very young age Caleb always threw himself all in to the things that he loved. Whether it was cars, history (especially WWII) or animals. He loved all animals, but especially birds, goats, dogs, frogs, praying mantises, walruses, snakes, and most importantly ... fish.
He would spend hours talking about his passions and interests and the only thing he loved more than them was the people he shared them with. He always did his very best to protect his loved ones and keep a smile on their faces. Honestly I’m not sure if much effort was really necessary to make everyone laugh, as he was always just naturally goofy.
Gold Star Mom
Cai is what I call Caleb. When he was born his big sister was only 15 months old and she could not pronounce his name. She called him Cai-Cai. It was the cutest thing and it just stuck. Over time he became Cai, and my Cai is most definitely a mommy’s boy.
